Acapulco's rich history has given several grand landmarks the city: El Fuerte de San Diego, The cathedral of nuestra Señora de la Soledad, La Quebrada and many others. The area known as Acapulco Viejo, is the heart of the real Acapulco. Sidewalk cafes and live music will tempt you to take a stroll around the plaza and do as the acapulquenos do. You can also charter a small skiff to take you across the bay for some great shots of what makes Acapulco grand.

Acapulco Quebrada La Quebrada - Cliff Divers :
La Quebrada is perhaps Acapulco's most iconic attraction. Every day at 1:00 p.m., young men dive from La Quebrada's perilous and jagged cliffs, timing their jump to coincide with the incoming waves that cushion their impact and protect them from landing in the shallows. Come evening, more diving takes place during which the divers illuminate the night sky with flaming torches.

Acapulco Fort of San Diego Fort of San Diego :
Its original construction dates from between the years 1615 to 1617 and its principal function was to repel the constant attacks by pirates, corsairs and filibusters that prowled the seas during that era. A very strong earthquake destroyed the Fort but it was rebuilt between the years 1778 and 1783. Built of stone and in a pentagonal shape, it has a moat, several vaulted enclosures underneath the walls and five bulwarks. Today it's a newly renovated museum with 12 exhibitions halls filled with unique relics.

Acapulco Chapel of PeaceChapel of Peace :
Acapulco offers plenty of tennis facilities, tennis buffs will find more courts than most other Mexican resorts. Club de Tenis Panoramic is a charming little tennis club, located in the hills above Playa Condesa, with two very well kept clay courts.

Acapulco Isla La RoquetaIsla La Roqueta :
10 minute boat ride from Caleta Beach. On the island is a unique zoo with lions, alligators, leopards, giraffes, zebras as well as an aviary and a serpentarium. The island is also great for hiking and has beaches with gentle waters and good snorkeling.

Acapulco The ZocaloThe Zocalo :
The main public plaza in town. This is a center of family activity and strolling about, especially on Sundays. You may find a band concert at the music gazebo on Sunday afternoons and the traditional balloon man is always a hit with the kids.

This charming plaza is surrounded by stores and small restaurants and the Acapulco Garden Club has done a beautiful job with the landscaping.

The CathedralThe Cathedral :
This church is a perfect example of Acapulco's rich history with Spanish, Moorish and native influences. Its distinctive sky blue domes dominate the downtown plaza. Step inside this cool and quiet church and admire the collection of religious statues. Saturdays are a good day to peek in on local weddings and baptisms as these events are a window into Mexican life.

Erected in 1930 and known as "Nuestra Señora de la Soledad", one of its most outstanding characteristics is its dome, constructed in the shape of a Mosque with its Byzantine towers. In the interior, its golden yellow tiled floor and its white and blue walls, are strange witnesses to a Christ in a crystal coffin.

Acapulco Convention CenterConvention Center :
Called the Acapulco International Center, this is an impressive complex of 34 acres with prehispanic reminiscences in its extensive interior. It is home to several theaters such as the Nezahualcoyotl, the Juan Ruiz de Alarcon; the impressive Teotihuac á n Hall; the Aztec Plaza where the fabulous show of theFlyers of Papantla is presented, along with several restaurants, meeting rooms and even a discotheque.

At both the international and national levels, this Convention Center has been witness to great and famous events, exhibitions, concerts of all types of music, seminars and hundredths of fairs and expositions. All of these activities have made this spot one of the most important attractions in Acapulco.

A busy place where conventions take place, large television shows are staged and taped, this is the home of the Acapulco Symphonic Orchestra and the famous Acapulco Music Festival. The vast garden areas boast a large variety of tropical plants and palms.

The entrance has an attractive water fountain display and there is a tourist assistance office on the premises.

There is a wonderful Mexican Fiesta Folklore Show here that includes a marvelous display of regional dancers, lively music and fascinating Indian shows. Fun family entertainment.
